From AI to Creativity: The Job Skills Shaping the Next Decade

For many years I’ve been interested in synthesizing the research about the most important skills to develop. (See Innovation Skills for the Future: Insights from Research Reports.)

The big report I always like to dig into is from the World Economic Forum. Here’s a quick 2025 Future of Jobs Report synopsis for you.

The most important job skills in 2025:

1. Analytical Thinking
2. Resilience, Flexibility, and Agility
3. Leadership and Social Influence
4. Creative Thinking
5. Motivation and Self-Awareness

and

Here’s the fastest growing skills by 2030:

1. AI and big data
2. Networks and cybersecurity
3. Technological literacy
4. Creative thinking
5. Resilience, flexibility and agility.

I think the opportunity is to get more specific with your skill development. These are all big categories. Think of the intersection of multiple categories. For instance, I’m developing my own skill in where #4 meets #1 (Creative thinking meets AI and big data).
